Who is eligible for membership?

Membership is open to anyone at least 18 years of age who is designated by a Hampton Roads (VA) 1st Responder to be a family member or friend and who has demonstrated a commitment to carrying out the mission of BTTL. 

What types of activities does the BTTL participate in?

The BTTL participates in various activities such as police and firefighter graduations, National Police Week, Fire Safety Week events, fundraisers for families of fallen 1st Responders, and other first responder-community oriented activities.

Does BTTL have 501(c)3 status?

Yes, we do! Verification of this information is available by request.

Where can I get an application to join the BTTL?

How long does the verification process take?

Verifications are typically completed within one week of the date that we receive your completed application.

What will my time commitment with BTTL be?

In addition to the one hour monthly meetings, members typically volunteer a variety of hours depending on the number and types of events that the BTTL is participating in.

Am I locked into a contract with BTTL?

Any member of BTTL in good standing can sever their membership at any time by writing a formal letter to the Board.

How often does BTTL meet?

BTTL holds monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month unless otherwise noted in Newport News, VA.  

Are children welcome to attend meetings?  


I do not meet the eligibility requirements of being a member of BTTL, can I still volunteer at BTTL sponsored events? 

Unless otherwise stated, BTTL sponsored events are open for individuals of the general public to volunteer.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact BTTL at megan@bttlva.org for more details.
